Connecting your own domain is a Pro feature. Manage it on Domains.
What you need
A domain you already own, and access to wherever you bought it — the place you manage its DNS records.
Steps
- Upgrade to Pro on Billing.
- Add your hostname, for example
www.yourbrand.com, on Domains. - At your domain provider, add a CNAME record pointing that hostname at the target shown on the page. A CNAME simply forwards one web address to another; your provider’s help pages use the same word.
- Press Activate.
If Activate does not work
Activating only succeeds once a security certificate has been issued for your hostname, and that cannot happen until your CNAME record is in place and has spread across the internet.
- “Certificate is not ready” — normal on the first try. Wait 10 to 20 minutes and press Activate again.
- It keeps failing — check the CNAME record at your provider. Without it, the certificate can never be issued, and pressing Activate will not help.
- Domains left unfinished are dropped after seven days. Add the hostname again if that happens.
Before it is live
Your site stays on its Siteflare web address, and that address keeps working after your own domain goes live. Point your domain at us only when you are ready for visitors to arrive on it.
Sites without Pro stay on the Siteflare address.
